Belle: Furless, Sunburnt, and Finally Safe
Belle was furless and severely sunburnt when she was first reported. Watching her transformation is nothing short of remarkable.
No One Could Touch Her
A friend sent Prue a photo of Belle with an urgent message: this dog needed help, because no one could get near her. Belle was too frightened, too far gone into survival mode to let anyone close.
Getting her to safety meant sedating her carefully. The team mixed a sedative into cat food, let her eat it, and once it took effect, they pulled her out and into a cage. Even then, she was sharp and skittish. For the days that followed, someone visited the clinic every few days just to feed her by hand and slowly get her used to a human presence.
No Single Turning Point
No single dramatic moment made everything click. Belle’s trust came together gradually, feeding by feeding, visit by visit. When Prue first saw the photos of her, hairless and sunburnt with nowhere to hide from either, she knew she had to help. What came after was simply patience, repeated daily.

Two Weeks Under the Bed
Once Belle was safely in foster care, she spent almost two weeks living under the bed, unwilling to come out. Slowly, she began venturing further, watching the other dogs in the home, learning from them how to exist in a space that wasn’t a threat. Bit by bit, she came out of her shell.
A Completely New Dog
Eventually, Belle’s foster mum decided to adopt her. Today, Belle is a completely new dog, one who’s clearly forgiven whatever came before and is, simply put, lovable.
