Ellie: Thrown From a Moving Vehicle, and We Witnessed It All
Ellie was thrown from a moving vehicle, and Mission Paws'ible witnessed it happen, in real time, on a busy road.
A Bag Thrown From a Four-Wheel Drive
Ellie was only three months old, trembling and screaming, when it happened. A four-wheel drive came flying past, and something was thrown from it, a small bag. It looked as though whoever was inside meant to throw it over the bridge into the ravine below. Instead, the bag hit the guardrail and bounced back onto the road. Ellie scuttered out, disoriented, into traffic that was still moving fast.
She made it across, somehow, and stopped at the corner. Traffic was still busy, which made trying to reach her risky.
Bonding Over Lasagna
Rather than rush at a terrified puppy in the middle of traffic, our rescuer went and got that night’s dinner instead, a lasagna, and brought it close enough for Ellie to smell. It worked. The food was enough to snap her out of the fear gripping her.
What followed became one of the most memorable moments in any of our rescues. Sitting with her, our rescuer gently stroked her chest. Ellie responded by lifting her paw, a small signal that she felt safe. It was described as a moment where the two of them communicated without saying a word.

Finding Her Footing
With Ellie safe but every clinic already closed for the night, and several dogs already at home, taking her in directly wasn’t an option. A friend agreed to take her in for the night while a proper foster home was arranged.
Ellie spent two to three months in foster care, learning how to socialise, how to trust humans again, and simply how to be a puppy. She settled in almost immediately, seeming to know from the very start that she’d landed somewhere safe.
A Happy Ending
Today, Ellie lives well in her forever home. She goes to the beach, gets walked regularly, and has settled into a life no one could have predicted for her on that traffic-filled road. Some dogs, as her rescuer put it, you just know are going to be okay. Ellie was one of them.
