Henry's Story: The Old Bali Street Dog Who Found True Love

Found on the Side of the Road
Prue was driving home one evening when she spotted an old dog on the side of the road in Ubud, barely able to lift his head. He looked close to death. But something about him told her he’d had an owner once. Underneath the exhaustion, his heart looked broken, not just his body.
She thought about it for a moment, then decided: rescue now, think later.
A Surprisingly Easy Rescue
Getting him into the car turned out to be easier than expected. He went in with barely any resistance, which told Prue this old boy had likely been in a car before, sometime in a life he’d since lost. She named him Henry right there on the spot, and they drove straight to the vet to begin his rehabilitation.
A Recovery Built on the Simple Things
Henry’s transformation wasn’t built on anything dramatic. It came down to a comfortable bed, good food, gentle walks, and the chance to explore the world again. He figured out what a bed was almost immediately, enough that Prue had to set a few house rules about whose bed was whose.
Around the four-week mark, his personality really started to shine. The walks seemed to help most of all, giving him back a spring in his step. He became close friends with Sadie, another of Prue’s rescues, and the two of them brought out each other’s happiness.

An Adoption That Wasn't Really a Choice
Prue didn’t plan to keep Henry. But she couldn’t bring herself to break his heart a second time, and somewhere along the way, she fell in love with him too. She jokes that she’s technically banned from fostering her own rescues, because she can never give them up once she’s had them. With Henry, that held true. She describes him as a loving, gentle soul, and the timing of their finding each other felt like more than a coincidence. As she put it, they kind of chose each other.
A Final Chapter Full of Love
Henry passed away several years after his rescue. It’s not the easiest part of his story to share, but it matters. Because Prue stopped that evening instead of driving past, Henry spent his final years knowing exactly what it meant to be loved.
