HOPE'S STORY

BLIND AND LEFT ON THE ROAD TO DIE

We thought there was only so much heartache one can take and then this happens.

A dog with severe skin condition and hair loss, lying on a concrete surface near a wire fence.

I can’t breath.
This is beyond words.
This can’t be real.
It is.

In May, 2018, Ketut, a huge animal lover that works in central Ubud, was driving to work and she noticed this little thing on the side of the road. She didn’t hesitate, stopped and picked her up and drove one handed for one kilometre to her friends store where there was a temporary cage. She contacted us for help.

Two images of a severely malnourished and injured dog; one shows it with a wounded face, and the other shows it being gently cared for by someone.

Not knowing what I would find, my heart shattered. This little girl, a neglected Pomeranian, can not open her eyes because the infection is so bad. Rather than get medical help when her skin condition started, her former human dumped her on a busy road, near a river with only one thought, “This isn’t my ‘problem’ anymore.”

Her human most probably assumed she’d be hit by a car or drown. End of story.
But fate was on her side and she was taken straight to the vet for treatment

Hope’s recovery was nothing short of a miracle. Over several weeks her scabies were gone and we were able to move her to a foster home. There she loved her time with Mark and Tara and their canine crew. She grew her luscious coat, her eyes healed and she found her bark.

A small black dog wearing a pink collar stands indoors on a wooden floor. A hand is gently patting its back. Toys are scattered around.

We began to campaign for her adoption when we got a text from her foster carer’s that they had found her the perfect home. Their home. Hope wasn’t leaving.

Today hope is happy, healthy, loved, oh so cheeky and very safe. She is truly a miracle against all odds. She also has a sweet and kind temperament towards all people despite the trauma inflicted on her.
