A student-led community programme from Mission Paws’ible
Sterilise Your Street is a student-led community programme from Mission Paws’ible that gives young people the opportunity to tackle two connected issues facing Bali: rabies and uncontrolled dog and cat populations.
Students start with something manageable: their own street.
They identify animals that need sterilisation and rabies vaccination, raise the funds to help them, then see the programme delivered in their own community.
It turns animal welfare and public health education into measurable action.

A simple, visual programme introducing younger students to animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, rabies prevention, sterilisation, fundraising and community responsibility.

Secondary students take greater ownership.
They can map their community, research rabies and animal population control, calculate budgets, create their fundraiser, develop campaigns, approach sponsors, pitch their school for matching funds, attend the veterinary event, measure their results and present the project back to their school.
It’s practical experience across leadership, entrepreneurship, communication, public health, data collection, budgeting and project management.
Rabies remains a very real public health issue in Bali.
At the same time, thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens continue to be born into communities where homes, veterinary care and resources are limited.
Unsterilised animals produce more litters. Growing animal populations contribute to more roaming and homeless animals, while maintaining high rabies vaccination coverage becomes increasingly difficult.
And the cycle continues.
But much of this is preventable.
Sterilisation is the only long-term solution to overpopulation. By reducing the number of animals born, we can stop the cycle of suffering before it begins. Monthly support funds operations and follow-up care so fewer animals are left struggling to survive.
Education empowers people to help with confidence and compassion. We focus on sharing knowledge about responsible care, prevention, and humane treatment so individuals and families can make informed decisions that protect animals in the long term.

Students aren’t simply asked to raise money for a charity. They have a clear target and can see exactly what their fundraising will achieve.
Start close to home.
Identify dogs and cats living on your street or in a nearby area you know needs support.
Using the Sterilise Your Street survey, record:
There’s no limit to how many animals you can identify. One street is simply an easy place to start.
Students observe only. They’re never expected to catch, handle or approach unfamiliar animals.
Once you submit your street, the Mission Paws’ible Survey Team visits the area.
We’ll verify the animals, speak with owners and community members and establish how many animals need sterilisation and vaccination.
Now you have a real fundraising target.
Create your own fundraiser through Mission Paws’ible and rally the people around you.

Take the challenge further by finding someone willing to match what you raise.
It could be your school, family, a local business or a corporate sponsor.
Matching is optional, but it can double the number of animals you protect.
Older students can also approach businesses themselves, learning how to pitch their project and secure a matching partner.
Once funding is secured, we turn those numbers into real animals protected.
Mission Paws’ible and the veterinary team organise the permits, community, schedule and event.

Meet the vets, learn how the programme works and see first-hand what your fundraising actually achieved.
After the event, you’ll receive your results and a Sterilise Your Street certificate recognising the animals you’ve helped protect.
Your project will also be added to the Mission Paws’ible Impact Map.
Standout projects will be celebrated across Mission Paws’ible’s digital and social channels.
Then take your results back to school and show everyone what happened.
Schools compete to protect the most animals in their local community.

Mission Paws’ible is inviting Bali schools to take part in the Sterilise Your Street Interschool Challenge.
Rather than simply learning about uncontrolled breeding and rabies, students get to do something about it.
Every animal protected counts towards their school’s position on the island-wide leaderboard.
Every participating school appears on the Sterilise Your Street Leaderboard.
Students map animals, raise the funds needed to protect them, then Mission Paws’ible carries out the event.

The long-term goal is to bring together 30+ international schools across Bali for a major student-led prevention campaign leading into World Rabies Day on 28 September 2027.
On World Rabies Day, Mission Paws’ible will publish the collective impact created by Bali’s students.
By investing in prevention, students and schools help build healthier communities, reduce future animal suffering and support long-term solutions for Bali’s animals and rabies prevention.
